AOL.com, Yahoo.com, MSN.com, GMail.com

It is difficult to imagine, that in our time of high technologies there exist places, where progress didn't come. Besides the more coming progress theoretically can reduce the possible income, the more that progress is restrained by means of all existing ways.

Most free e-mail services are known to get profit from ads showed to users in mailbox web-interface. That is the reason why does internet giants of web-industry do not hurry to made the free access for e-mail by means of protocols POP3 and SMTP, because then the effects of their publicity will decrease, and they do not want that.Such giants as Yahoo.com, MSN.com, AOL.com operate many users, which are tied to other companies' services don't hasten to provide such access as today users won't disappear and the reason is that they just get into the habit of using web-interface.

Of cause there are some ways to avoid these limitations. For example there are some Yahoo.com programs which convert web traffic into POP3. However, it is possible to steal mailbox passwords with the help of such programs which reduces a wish to use them. For Hotmail.com by MSN.com there is a possibility to use a special protocol, which is integrated into Outlook Express, and is not available to other email program developers, which also limits the user's freedom to choose an email program. The AOL.com has access by POP3 and SMTP, but it is accessible for the clients for internet access from that provider and this cramp the region of mail using because the internet access from the AOL.com is not everywhere.

But, they lose a lot trying to hold the old marketing policy oriented for on-line publicity limiting the users choice. There is another way to monetize population attracting and holding users. A company Google.com with its email Gmail.com has become this new model. At the beginning the users can access the interfaces POP3 and SMTP, that does not limit the users in the way of mail using. But the service has a big advantage before ordinary mail clients like Outlook Express - that is big post mailbox and all the letters can be stored at the server without problems that allows the user to have access for the mailbox from the any part of the world.Plus, only relevant advertising is shown to a user, no bothering banners! Such format attracts more and more users of e-mail - because the convenience web-interface allows forgetting the problem of the mail programs installation.

As a result the email systems we will know in the future will be web interfaces, without actually using any email programs. Most probably Yahoo.com, MSN.com and AOL.com will use this model in the future, because such approach better than the old methodic with the using of mail programs.Even POP3 and SMTP have served their time because the Gmail.com notice about new mail you can get by means of RSS channels.
